Chongqing

Situated in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River at the confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing River in southwest China, Chongqing is the largest and most populated municipality of China's four provincial-level municipalities. It is also the only one of these municipalities in the less densely populated western region of China.

For centuries the main commercial and transportation centre for Sichuan Province, Chongqing is now under rapid transformation due to the construction of the Three Gorges Dam. The city was granted national status in l996 as a municipal region similar to Bejing, Shanghai and Tianjin with an administrative region that includes the eastern Sichuan counties downriver for a total population of some 30 million people. Chongqing is now proud to be the world's largest metropolitan region.

As an important tourism city of China, Chonqing encompasses a wealth of water reserves, mineral resources, dense forests, and abundant flora and fauna, especially the unique Yangtze Three Gorges Dam. Otherwise, Chongqing also has many other attractions like Dazu Carvings, Ciqikou Chongqing Auditorium and so on. If you want to visit the three gorges, to aboard a cruise ship from Chongqing port should be your best choice. Chongqing is also famous for its foggy weather in spring and winter days, which gives this city a nickname of "the Fog Capital".

Chongqing’s hot Sichuan cuisine and world-famous hotpot also attract visitors all over the world. Street vendors as well as restaurants feature unique spicy delicacies for you. There are kinds of local snacks waiting for your taste.
